Customised Plastics Granules Company
A four location business
that was operated as stand alone businesses. Their markets were mainly non-food
FMCG. Management skills and profits varied substantially but service was generally
good. The client wanted to improve overall profitability. Turnover approximately £30M.
The Solution - I
suggested that we should look first at the overall situation of the business
unit rather than the individual locations. This enabled us to get a strategic
view and a clear understanding of each of the operations and how we might be
able to improve overall performance.
The Result - One
location was closed down as its capacity was not needed. We suggested that they
should utilise good modern technology that was located in the main location
to achieve better consistency and quality at an overall cost saving. This resulted
in substantial labour cost reduction but still a low margin business. The main
board decided that this business was not core to the group and they successfully
sold the business.
